The Fender Jaguar Guitar originally was produced in 1962. The Jazzmaster laid as the model for its design. Some of the major differences had to do with the tremolo and waist of the guitar, as well as the size of the scale.

The Jaguar had a scale 24 inch in size and was the first of its kind. The reason for this related to the way that it only had 22 frets. This happened to be the first Fender of this type.

The overall design and assembly differed as well. The Jaguar featured an addition of a metal control plate as well as changes with the way the components were installed. Wires now had to pass through drilled sections.

In addition, the wooden part was made around the components instead of allowing for the assembling of the parts on the outside as once before. Additional changes incorporated the flip switch. This had to do with the other companies within the time.

More specifically, January 1962 marked the production of the Jaguar guitar. The guitar was originally thought to have been made for promotional purposes, since more guitars did not come out until march that year. Many of the guitars made, had to do with customizations with custom colors and headstocks that matched.

Later in April, the guitars were all marked with identifying tags for the nut width, year code, model number and month. Additionally, the potentiometers became marked with part numbers from that point on. Another change that occurred had to do with the rosewood, which changed from a slab rosewood to carved veneer rosewood.

Other major changes occurred at the start of 1965 with the clay dots. These were replaced with pearloid dots. Soon after, the material of the pickguard changed as well, which related to changing the nitrate material for a vinyl one.

Although many changes did happen to the Fender Jaguar Guitar, its popularity never reached that of the stratocaster or Telecaster. Therefore it was retired in 1975.
